ANALYSIS [x]
Notes by Lasker.Black dare not allow d5, as long as his King is still in the center. Now that the b-pawn is blocked, was the time to attack it, in order to bring the QR into action. After 13.a4 O-O 14.axb5 axb5 White would be well developed and Black’s b and h- pawn would become objects of attack. For this reason Black’s last move was not as good as Be7.If Qc1, Rc8 might follow threatening Nxb2; this move would also be strong against Bc1, and Rb1 would be answered by Nxb2 at once. White now begins to complicate matters, in order to make an attempt of saving himself.By 17...Nd6 Black could have repulsed the attack. After 18.Nxf6+ gxf6. 19.Nxf7 Kxf7 neither 20.Qxe6+ (Kg7) nor 20.Qh5+ (Ke7) would lead to anything. After the text the sacrifice is correct and leads to a draw. But now he ought to play 20.Qh5+. If Ke7 21.Bxf6+ Kxf6 22.Qh6+ Ke7 23.Qxe6+ and draws by perpetual check. If 20...Kg8 21.Bh6 White’s position would be good enough to win. If 20...Kf8 21.Qh6+ Ke8? 22.Rxe6+ Kd7 23.Bf5 Black would stand on a volcano.0-1
