Jan-14-09  grz: Shouldn't Black's 17th move be:

17 ... Qa5 ?

Jan-14-09  ILikeFruits: no...

stoy: Black's move 17...Qa4 hangs the queen for nothing! Qa5 looks better.
Jan-14-09  Granny O Doul: Beats me. What does Rybka say?
Jan-14-09  grz: I played against Martz in a simul at my high school in 1975. He played 50 games, and lost none. A great person to give of his time so freely for the benefit of young chess players. His death from cancer in 1983 was a tragedy. I just found out he played Bent Larsen once. It is a neat game.
Jan-14-09  grz: Why isn't 30 Qxe2 enough to keep Martz in the game? What am I missing?
Jan-14-09  Granny O Doul: grz: 30 ...d3 then cleans up.
Jan-15-09  grz: Granny O Doul:

Thanks. I'll look for answer to that. I think you may have found why he resigned.

Jan-15-09  thebribri8: <Granny O Doul: Beats me. What does Rybka say?> He says that you should not ask him such obvious questions. Of course the score is incorrect.
Jan-15-09  Xeroxx: <What does Rybka say?>

Rybka says: "White is a chess tourist"

Jan-15-09  blacksburg: <"White is a chess tourist">

W Martz vs Petrosian, 1976

W Martz vs Miles, 1976

W Martz vs Gulko, 1967

W Martz vs Korchnoi, 1982

a tourist with a pretty nice record, wins over gulko and miles, draws with petrosian and korchnoi, i would be happy with that :)

May-09-14  Zhbugnoimt: qa4 is obviously a mistake in the scoring
