Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-07-04  PinkPanther: Nicely done by Geller. Although I was a bit surprised he didn't play the typical KID f5 pawn break at some time during the game. Needless, to say this game was a real stinker from Colon....sorry guys, I couldn't help myself, I had to say it.
Jan-07-04  ughaibu: How about "Colon had strong centre pawns but Geller wreck'd 'em"?
Jan-07-04  PinkPanther: <How about "Colon had strong centre pawns but Geller wreck'd 'em"?>

LOL!! I think you did me one better there, hahaha. Another joke might go something like "gee, what a crappy performance by Colon". On a chess note, what is this? The Averbakh Variation of the Kings Indian?

Jan-07-04  PinkPanther: C'mon, nobody's gonna try and another joke to this discussion?
Jan-08-04  bilikidder: A historical note: After M. Colon's defeat by Geller, he went into a psychotic episode a'la Miles and Torre where he ran up and down the street, buck naked, yelling "The city is conquered and the little king will have to go." His family had to lock him in the attic for several years. He did not come out of his delusional condition until a visit from his cousin, Helgi Ass Gretarsson . Colon was so glad to see Ass as they had been very close. Now, there are rumors that Helgi Ass Gretarsson is planning a match with Wang Pin . Colon is expected to be Ass' second.
Jan-08-04  Benjamin Lau: Lol, that was informative and funny.

Sneaky: This has got to be the most immature discussion I've read on all of chessgames.com yet.
Jan-08-04  ughaibu: Come on Sneaky, give us a one-liner.
Jan-08-04  Benjamin Lau: Sheesh, I was merely repeating what billikidder had already said, which was funny in a subtle and dry way.

But Sneaky, I'm interested that you regard this as the most immature conversation on the website. Surely Marnoff's espousal of jewish world domination theory and ranting that the holocaust is fake could count as worse?

Jan-08-04  northernsoul: that's not immature, just stupid and despicable

tamar: I'm with you Sneaky. I don't have the stomach for this kind of discussion. Next they will bring in Peter Heine Nielsen.
Jan-08-04  ughaibu: But Tamar, you must agree Colon showed a lot of guts in choosing this line against Geller.

tamar: Yep,Ughaibu. Geller handed him his lunch.
Jan-08-04  Benjamin Lau: White did not study opening theory anal retentively enough. He left book with the aggressive but overly provocative 8. f4?! Geller's 8...e5 seems to collapse Colon's center. White also plays a bit oddly in the middlegame.
Jan-08-04  bilikidder: The combination that Geller found starting with 24…Bb5, is a consequence of the tempi that Colon spent on building his pawn center at the cost of the development of his pieces (N and R on K-side never move) and leaving his K in the middle. Geller wrecked’em (thanks ughaibu) indeed.

I’m happy that Benjamin Lau finds my post funny. But these attacks on my sense of humor by Sneaky, northernsoul and sly ol’ tamar have left me feeling terrible.

:-( I’m not trying to hurt anyone. I feel a bad case of indigestion coming on…

Jan-08-04  Benjamin Lau: Lol. I think northern soul was actually referring to Marnoff's ranting when he said stupid and despicable though. At any rate this game is a good lesson on spending tempo in a balanced manner.

tamar: Just to recap then: Colon stood large in testin' Geller's opening against a four pawn attack, and his pawns started rolling until Geller wrecked 'em.
Jan-09-04  ughaibu: Tamar: You may be right that Colon showed guts in testin' this line but it could've been because he was ill 'e umberiferously arrayed his pawns above his king, all of course to no effect as Geller showed not only stomach for the fight but even bile upon seeing the pawns and he soon wrecked 'em anyway.
