White played the colorless move 24.Rc1??, allowing his opponent to double rooks on his seventh rank (or White's second rank). According to the computers Hoi should have played 24.Re5! Qg6 25.Nc3 with equality. After 24.Rc1?? Rbb2 25.Rxe6 (25.Rg3 Qh5 -+) fxe6 26.Qxe6+ Kh7 Black won easily.

Jan-06-21  Gaito: Of course, Carsten Hoi is well remembered for his immortal game against Boris Gulko at the 1988 Olympiad. That was one of the most brilliant and beautiful chess games ever played. See link: Hoi vs Gulko, 1988
