Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-08-09  freeman8201: Hmmm?
Black won in the endgame. I once lost in the same endgame position with reverse colors but it didn't come out a Marshall attack. To reiterate: in Rueben Fine's endgame, reference, book; inorder for the side with the B+R+K to checkmate a K+R it it takes alot of FORCING moves! And in no way would I have ever, ever, came up with the same position in Fine's book. I was the defending side and I lost in same as White lost in this game.

A key note to remember is that the attacking side with the Bishop blocks the checks from the opponent's Rook.

According to Fine's book; the Defending, side with the K+R, has to force the attacking-side to make precision, very accurate, moves.

Chessical: <62.Ra1?> loses as White's Rook is then tied by threat of mate to the back rank. White cannot prevent the Black Rook eventually checking him on the K-side, and winning his frustrated Rook. It is difficult to force this, but quite possible.

<62.R> to any square in the range <e5 to e8> is a drawn position. Black cannot exchange Rooks as he will have insufficient material to affect a mate. White by keeping his Rook on the e-file is safe.
