Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-05-12  Riverbeast: This game was talked about by Hort in 'The Great Chess Movie'

He said it could have been a brilliancy (He considered 13...Nc5 an !!), "...remembered into the next century..." but he misplayed it

I'm guessing the critical position is after 15. Bxe6

I see many tempting continuations for black, but no clear win in my head

Anybody have an engine for that position?

Mar-05-12  paguyana: Hi Riverby. I think the key line is after dXc5 then BXc5+. Rf2--forced; then Qh4!
Mar-05-12  Kangaroo: <15. Bxe6 Bxc5+> would have deserved more attention.
Nov-12-13  gaviero55: Yes, 14...Bxc5+ improves. It does force 15.Rf2 then 15...Rxh2 breaks in! The rook can't be taken because of Qh4+ and 15...Rxh2 threatens Rh1+, so 16.Nd1 ( if 16.Kf1 then 16...Nxc3 17.Bxc3 Qh4 and if 16.Ne2 then 16...Qh4 17.Ng3 Nf6 18.Be3 Bxe3 19.Qxe3 Nh5 20.Rf3 Nxg3 21.Rxg3 Rh1+ wins)

16...Qh4 17.Kf1 (if 17.g3 then 17...Rh1+ 18.Kg2 Qh3+ 19.Kf3 Re1 and the noose remains tight.) 17...Nb4 18.Ke2 Rd8 19.Ne3 (if 19.Be3 then 19...Qh5+ 20.Ke1 Rh1+ 21.Rf1 Qh4+ 22.Nf2 Bxe3 is winning and if 19.g3 then 19...Qh3 and Black is still on top) 19...Rd4 is . I think these are some of the variations Hort saw.

Oct-19-15  Howard: Timman analyzed this game earlier this year in New In Chess.
May-23-17  eyalbd: Hort mentions this game here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lee...

Hort:
<"It's nice look at this for example. I played this game with Polugaevsky, I made such a nice move (13..Nc5) ... you look at the position and you think there must be something ... I found everything clear after the game was finished ... most I saw during the game and I just misplayed it. It's pity because the game would be very famous">
