Feb-14-07  Tacticstudent: in fact, a think that the Rubinstein Attack of the Orthodox Defense is an excellent continuation for White, but it requires careful play. This game is an excellent game by Ivanov.

  MissScarlett: Memorial Day Classic, Long Beach: http://articles.latimes.com/1995-06...

As it was the final round game, the date would be Monday, May 29th, because the Classic is a three-day holiday affair.

  Retireborn: Bloody 'ell <MissScarlett>! I didn't really expect an answer at all, never mind such a rapid one. Many thanks!

Must say I find the Informator practice of just putting USA or USSR etc quite annoying.

  MissScarlett: There's no possible mix-up because Peters annotates the game in the same column.10.d5 is claimed to be an OTB novelty. He rightly identifies 27...Rxa2 as a serious error, but wrongly thinks White would still be clearly winning after <27...c4 28.Nc5 Rxa2 29.Rh4 etc.>

  Retireborn: <MissS> Peters may have got that from Browne, who gives this variation in Informator;

27...c4 28.Nc5 Rxa2 29.Rh4 Rbxb2 30.Rxc4 Rxf2 31.Nb3 Ba4 32.Rxa4 Rxa4 33.d7 Rc4+ 34.Kb1 Rb4 35.Rd3....but 32...Rfc2+ is a very obvious draw really.

Must be, but Browne/Peters' earlier main line varies with <31...Be6 32.Rc7+ Kh6 33.Nd2 Ra1+ 34.Nb1> but that isn't winning either, so Browne got foxy with 31...Ba4.
