Honza Cervenka: 72...Re3 was a blunder. After 72...Kh3 black seems to be okay.
Jul-02-05  Kangaroo: It is hard to agree with <Honza Cervenka>.

Look at <72 ... Kh3. 73. Rb7>, for instance.

Yes, Black may have several checks, but the King still remains in the mate net.

I did not have the complete analysis, yet it looks like White is winning eventually.

Mar-24-07  notyetagm: A beautiful final position:

White (Kasparov) <PINS> the Black e2-knight to the Black h2-king and with his final move, 73 ♖e6!, he <PINS> the Black e3-rook to the Black e2-knight.

Kasparov augments his <LATERAL PIN> across the 2nd rank by creating a second <PIN> down the e-file with 73 ♖e6! and the game is over.

Black created two <PINNING CHAINS> of pieces of White exploited both of them. One <PINNING CHAIN> is Black e2-knight + Black h2-king. The second <PINNING CHAIN> is Black e3-rook and Black e2-knight.

For heaven's sake, do not line up your pieces like this!

Apr-07-07  KingG: The number of pins in this game is quite amazing.

plang: Kasparov's gambit 18 Rg1 was a new idea. His compensation would have been unclear, however, after 20..Nf6. 23 Rg3 is quite pretty with the idea of 23..ef 24 Rd3+..Kc7 25 Re7+..Kb8 26 Re8..Ng6 27 Rh8..Nh8 28 Rd8. Bareev defends well in a tough endgame but eventually is forced to sacrifice the exchange to prevent the a pawn from beating him. According to Seirawan after 72..Kh3 Bareev would have still had drawing chances.
Jun-25-07  walker: agree
Mar-13-08  whiteshark: <Kangaroo> You're way off! As <Honza Cervenka> said it's a draw. White can't make any progress.

dernier loup de T: But 52.Rg1 seems to give a winning position to White?! After 52...Kh5 53.Ra7...; and if 52...h3, then 53.Kd5...
