Feb-18-08  wolfmaster: This is not a given win for Amsterdam. Antwerp should have played on a while, especially with a superior minor piece.
Jan-24-12  optimal play: I agree. The position to me looks drawn.
Jan-25-12  thomastonk: Yes, I agree, too.

Mauvillon states that Antwerp resigned early, but it was justified. His analysis gives 46.. Bd4 47. Ne3 Bxe3 48. Kxe3 and the pawn ending is indeed lost. But Black has better options than 46.. Bd4?, say 46.. Ke7.

Maybe Antwerp resigned the match against Amsterdam: the other game was resigned in move 45, so probably at the same time.

Mar-19-14  barryh1976: I think he saw white having the opportunity to get his knight to g6 with a sacrifice creating 2 unstoppable pawns.
Mar-19-14  ChemMac: That end position is I think lost.. Agreed; after Ne3 Black cannot exchange. The White King infiltrates via b5, since White has two vital tempo moves with P- a3 and a4. If not, then Ng4-f6. Black can get the h6 Pawn, but then we get a position with the W Knight on g4 and the remaining RP on h5. This freezes the Black King to stop that passed RP, and the White K can leisurely go via b5 to gorge on Pawns. OK?
