I have seen that done dozens of times and although it seems like a huge time-waster, in about 50% of cases it turns out quite well. Here it certainly doesn't do any damage, because there are lots of exchanges and we arrive at this dull-looking position, after 37♙b4x♕c5:

This might look level, but Miles was one of the best endgame experts in the world. His play in the knight v bishop ending is soo-poib, and is still talked about at Lone Pine.
