Oct-25-09  computer chess guy: Well-played endgame by Spielmann. After 37. .. ♗f4? White's more mobile king allows him to win (better was 37. .. h5). Black cannot defend the d pawn with 39. .. ♗f6 because White would play 40. ♔g4 and win the pinned Knight.

plang: Levenfish had played 11.dxc against Spielmann at Carlsbad 1911 and White had gone on to win; 11..Bc5 was new. 13 0-0? was a tactical error; better would have been 13 Nf4 or 13 Rb1. 15..Nd8 looks like a way to keep Black's advantage. Black had an edge after 23..Ne3 but after the next several moves the position opened up a bit so that the two bishops gave White active play. 31..Bd6 was suggested as an improvement. 32..Kh7? gave White tactical threats. 34..Rf6, giving back the pawn, would have been better. Black's last chance was 35..Kg8 getting out of the pin.
