Mar-16-08  Kasputin: This is interesting. I was using the Opening Explorer feature - looking at some closed Sicilian games. I knew about this game between Lane and Nunn, but I didn't know that it was in the chess games database. I got to move 14. Ne2 using the Opening Explorer. The only move listed as an option is 14...Rhd8 - 3 games ending in a draw. But Nunn played 14...Kd6. Knowing this, I opened up a second window and searched the database for the Lane-Nunn game. Sure enough it came up. So my question is, why doesn't the move 14...Kd6 appear in the Opening Explorer? Here btw is what comes up after 14. Ne2 when the option "search database for this position" is picked in the Opening Explorer: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... You will notice that the Lane-Nunn game doesn't appear here either. Why is that?
Mar-17-08  Kasputin: Just to update my previous post - the game has now been indexed and available through the Opening Explorer. Very prompt action on behalf of chessgames.com
Mar-18-08  Aspirador: Opening Explorer aside, if I lost a game in this fashion then I would be sitting in some deep hole right now.
Mar-18-08  Aspirador: Ke7-d6-c5-b4-a3 could be titled as "suicide on the black squares".
Mar-18-08  rgr459: I do not understand the strategic idea behind that king-walk. Nunn's sharp style set him up for the occasional evisceration, but I really do not get what he was thinking here.
Jul-23-11  ulysses ganesh: obviously, nunn was too optimistic of his chances! takin a king walk!
Aug-23-12  missionmankiwi: Great commentary on this win by a young Gary Lane in his book on the Ultimate Closed Sicilian.
