Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-25-05  zb2cr: This is an interesting ending. What I
don't get is why White played 50 Ke4,
when 50 a4 seems obvious. Black then has
the choice of leeting his advanced Pawn
go by playing 50 ... Kb3; 51 a5, bxa5;
52 Kxe2 or defending it by 50 ... Kd3
when 51 h5 looks strong.
Feb-25-05  aw1988: The idea is to lure the king away.
Feb-26-05  cade: I think 55. Kc3 is a mistake, allowing black to get a second Queen with check and forcing the exchange. If White had been able to keep her 2 Qs on the board i think a perpetual would have been found.
Feb-26-05  aw1988: Sorry, but where do you see Kc3?
Feb-28-05  zb2cr: <aw1988>,
That was a misread; <cade> meant 65 Kc3, not 55 Kc3.

<cade>, you may be right about alternatives to 65 Kc3: 65 Kc4 prevents the Queening, since if 65 ... e1=Q; 66 Qxa7+ wins for White. But 65 ... Qb3+;
66 Kd4, Qd1+; 67 Kc4, Qc2+; 68 Kd4, Qd2+ etc.

Improvements, anyone?
