Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-20-09  YouRang: White had an interesting, but probably unsound sacrificial attack in this game. However, white might have been able to hold on near the end after the rook sac: 15...Qxa1 16.Bxg5 h6 [diagram]

White played 17.Ne2 and promptly lost.

However might have held with 17.Bd2!, threatening Bc3. And if black lazily avoids that with 17...Qxa2?, then white wins with 18.Qe8+ Kg7 19.Bc3+ f6 20.Bxf6+! Kxf6 21.Qxh8+ Kg6 22.Nc3! (getting N into attack with tempo, while restricting black queen) 22...Qf7 23.Re3 with Rg3+ and kinghunt coming up.

Black must block the white queen with 17...Qe5 18.Qxe5 Nxe5 19.Rxe5 cxd6 20.Rd5, and it's a very close game.
