Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-10-15  wordfunph: lethal blow 34...g4!
Feb-11-19  blackcat7oo: 8...Ne8!? is definitely an interesting idea, by 11...Bg7 blacks position looks like a kings indian position.
Feb-25-20  MordimerChess: Ruy Lopez and Rubinstein play interesting idea Ne8, with f5 continuation. Izbinsky reacts and forces g6 but it doesn't change the characted of the position.

Emanuel Lasker commented this game in his magazine. In move 23...Qxd4+ was very tempting but Rubinstein didn't see it would work 24. cxd4 Bxd4+ 25. Re3 f4 26. Qa5 Bxe3+ 27. Kf1 Ng3+ 28. Ke1 Bf5 and position is complicated. Material is kind of equal but definitely unbalanced.

28...g4! could be played earlier, for example 29. hxg4 if Be2 (then Nf4 with strong attack) Nc5 30. Kh1 Be3 31. Qc2 Qh4 32. Nxf5 Bxf5 33. gxf5 Bf4 and black have better position. But probably Rubinstein just wanted to improve position of rooks first.

31...g4 could also be played now, and then 32. hxg4 fxg4 33. Bxg4 Bxg4 34. Nxg4 Qh4 35. Qf3 Kh8!! with thread Qxg3 and mating ideas
