plang: An example of the obscure complications that Shirov liked early in his career. 7 f3!? was an invention of his which has never caught on. A few months later Magomedov played 12..exd but Shirov won again. After 13 Qc3?! (Shirov recommended 13 Nc3) Black was better but Shirov outplayed his opponent in the complications.
Jul-31-09  DarthStapler: Wait, why Kf2 instead of Qe7+ Kg6 Ne5 mate?
Feb-14-10  alexrawlings: What a crazy game! What would have white played if 29.. Kxf6?

It's mate in two after <29...Kxf6 30.Qd4+ Kg5 31.Nf7#>.

Feb-17-10  alexrawlings: Thanks <phoney benoni>, I feel a bit silly for asking now!
Oct-22-14  SpiritedReposte: This is a very characteristic Shirov game, relentlessly attacking the king.

He handles the initiative masterfully and what a finishing move. It's like his king was immune from harm the whole game!
