Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-18-22  cehertan: He justifiably resigns a pawn up position because the h pawn is marching to glory.

Open Defence: actually in most variations I think it will be the f pawn that queens and wins a rook and bishop in the process
Jul-18-22  cehertan: You do, huh? Explain to me what is wrong with h5, h6, and mate or winning everything in sight? Yes f5 would also win but rather silly to counter my statement unless you can show a line where h5-h6 does not rip blacks lungs out, no?

Open Defence: Coz Black would play h6 first

34...h6 35.gxh6 Rf6 36.hxg7+ Kxg7

And of course Black is lost which is why he resigned after White's 34th move

But as I said it is the f pawn that is now the threat and so

37. f5 with play possibly continuing 37..Bc5 38.Kc2 a5 39.h5 b4 40.Kb3 Kh6 41.Bxf6 Nd5 42.Bg7+ Kxh5 43.f6 Nxe3 44.f7 a4+ 45.Kxa4 Nc2 46.f8=Q

So its not the h pawn marching to the end but the k side being opened up.... but if the question is which pawn will end up Queening...it is the f pawn...

Jul-18-22  cehertan: Very nice analysis, except that in your diagram after 37.f5 as I said, black is getting completely eviscerated so your original statement was still absurd. It would be more correct to say that pushing the h or f pawns both compel immediate resignation. Enough said.
Jul-18-22  cehertan: I asked you to show a line where h5-h6 does not rip blacks lungs out, and you categorically failed to do so.

Open Defence: < It would be more correct to say that pushing the h or f pawns both compel immediate resignation. Enough said.> that was my point

<I asked you to show a line where h5-h6 does not rip blacks lungs out, and you categorically failed to do so.> that was after your original post where you said the h pawn marches to glory

<Very nice analysis, except that in your diagram after 37.f5 as I said, black is getting completely eviscerated so your original statement was still absurd> My original statement was that in most lines the f pawn queens as it does in the line I gave so how is that absurd??

Open Defence: <It would be more correct to say that pushing the h or f pawns both compel immediate resignation.> it would be more correct to say the h pawn will destroy Blacks k side protection and the f pawn will Queen
Jul-19-22  Muttley101: Cehertan, you asked Open Defence to show you a line where the h-pawn "doesn't march to glory", and he literally does that.

You then claim he has "categorically" not given a line where the h-pawn marches to glory, ignoring that it is in his reply to you.

First, you might take your tone down a notch. No-one owes you an explanation on the internet, you're not king of the internet and you're not their boss. The user was good enough to show you how black can put up resistance, though still lost, and answered your question.

Second, you originally claimed that "... the h pawn is marching to glory" without giving any line showing this, so it's pretty hypocritical to do this and then rail at a user for ... not giving a line (which wasn't even correct).

So here's the thing. You claim that in the final position, "the h-pawn is marching to glory". Did you have a line that shows that is forced (if so, please post it), or did you just make an off-the-cuff remark without actually basing it on analysing the position?

Lastly, you might want to reflect on how you come across in your comments. I have no idea who you are, but you come across as someone who doesn't read posts and over-reacts if someone disagrees with you, rather than someone is considered and constructive, and you should provide analysis yourself if you're going to (erroneously) criticise others for not doing so.
