Oct-22-09  kooley782: After 17.hxg3 I really feel like Black should have won. White's pawns are just two weak. I can't find an exact better move than what Spassky played, but my positional intuition says "Black wins" after move 17. Anyone else agree? I know the bishops are opposite colored, but the rooks are still on the board, so it's not very drawish at all.
Oct-22-09  ughaibu: Tal's a pawn up.
Jun-09-16  ewan14: Spassky ( against Tal ) 3 ..... f5 wow !
Jun-21-19  chessrookstwo: still a good game......
Jun-22-19  Granny O Doul: Larry D. lesser Evans devoted an 'ABC's of Chess' (I won't say "the Abscess of Chess" here because this sentence is already mildly insulting and Larry really isn't a bad guy) column to this subvariant, "the second Bulgarian Variation of the Schliemann defense to the Ruy Lopez", characterized by the move 4...Nf6.

It wasn't a bad piece, but since the USCF members it was written for were only likely to play other USCF members who read the column, it's not obvious who the article was apt to benefit.

woldsmandriffield: A sharp opening yet there is a sense of the players baling out. Critical must be 13 Nxe4 dxe4 14 Bc4+ Kh8 15 d3 and after 15..Bxf5 16 dxe4 Bxe4 17 Qxd8 Raxd8 18 c3 and White has an extra pawn and can play on with no risk.

Maybe in this line Spassky would have taken on d3 as he did in the game: 15..exd3 16 Qxd3 Qh4!? 17 g3 Qh3 but then 18 Qe4 Qxf5 19 Qxf5 Bxf5 20 c3 Rad8 21 Be3 leads to the same type of thing.

In the game, the move 25..Bd3! is a touch of class, embarrassing the Ra4.

Oct-26-21  edubueno: 13. Nxe4 dxe4 14. Bc4+ Kh8 15. d3 b5 16. Be6 Bxe6 17. fxe6 Qd6 18. g3 exd3 19. Qxd3 Qxd3 20. cxd3 Rfe8 seems fully equal
