Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-25-04  Shah Mat: incredible.
Oct-25-04  Swindler: Looks like Black gets the kingside attack that most often is Whites privilige.
Sep-02-08  jerseybob: "Groundhog Day: Kotkov's Nightmare continues"!
Sep-02-08  Smothered Mate: Why does black win?
Sep-03-08  jerseybob: Consulting my trusty 1965 BCM Annual, I see there was a tourney in Sochi 1965; Spassky and Unzicker were co-winners. Kotkov also played, finishing near the bottom, so there was a second game between those two, though I doubt it was a move for move repeat of their 1961 game. Can anyone supply the score?
Mar-19-14  Zugzwangovich: I have three different sources for this game and all list it as the one these two played at the Sochi 1965 tournament. I have submitted a correction slip.
Apr-09-15  A.T PhoneHome: 32...Nxg2 was neat by Spassky. If 33.Kxg2, then 33...Qxf2+ 34.Kh1 Ng3# mate or 34.Kh3 Ng5# mate.

Curious detail is that Spassky made a hook-like maneuver with his Queen (...Qf7-f4, ...Qf4-g4, ...Qg4-g1, ...Qg1-e1#). Something quite symbolic about that!

  sachistu: I hate to contradict <Zugzwangovich> who submitted a correction slip, but the version given here is incorrect. Instead of 22.Rc1 Nf4 23.b4 Rf8 24.Rf3 Kh8 25.Nc6 Qf6 26.b5 axb 27.Bxb5 Qg6 28.Rg3 etc, the score should be 22.b4 Nf4 23.Rc1 Rf8 24.Bf1 Kh8 25.Nc6 Qf6 26.b5 axb 27.Bxb5 Qg6 28.Rg3 with rest as given here.

The correct score was probably the one originally supplied by <Chessdreamer> who cited Chess in the USSR 1945 Part 2 (by C. Leach).

The Colin Leach book Chess in the USSR 1945 Part 2, game 156, Shakhmatny Bulletin, 1965, Issue 12, p366, and Spassky's 100 Best Games by Cafferty all give the corrected sequence I listed above.

The game was from the Chigorin Memorial at Sochi 1965.

I do not know why the current venue is listed here as Moscow 1965 Sochi. In any event, I'll submit a correction slip for the score and the venue.
