"This system, popularized by the Soviet player Averbakh, must be handled with great care by Black."

6 ... c5

"Probably the best sixth move of all for Black is 6 ... c5, which sets in motion an immediate counter attack against the Queen's side weakened by the absence of White's QB. White has little option but to reply 7. d5 (7. dxc5? is answered by 7 ... Qa5!, threatening 8 ... Nxe4), and the game can continue 7 ... a6 Opening Explorer 8. a4! Qa5 etc. Opening Explorer If White omits the important advance of the QRP, and plays a developing move instead (say, 8. Nf3?), he soon gets into hot water."

8 ... b5! 9. cxb5 axb5 10. Qc2

"10. Bxb5 permits the neat riposte 10 ... Nxe4! 11. Nxe4 Qa5+ etc., with advantage to Black."

10 ... b4 11. Nd1 b3! 12. Qxb3 Nxe4 13. 0-0 Nxg5 14. Nxg5 e5!

"With a fine game for Black."

J.B. Howson, "Two Hundred Modern Chess Traps in the Fianchetto Openings." A.S. Barnes and Company, New Jersey, 1970.

*****

Similar to the Sicilian Defense, Black advances ... b7-b5 followed by ... b5-b4 hitting the Nc3 to undermine support of the Pe4.
