Jun-30-04  vonKrolock: the idea 12.Nf7 possibly was not refuted in this game...after the hesitant 17.Bc2?, the bright Nxe5!! introduces a decisive attack
Dec-15-05  sitzkrieg: Our "champ" lost in 17 moves.

Bc2 is probably to play Qd3 and Qh7?? Deep plan..

plang: 12 Nh3 had been played previously several times. I'm sure Gelfand was surprised by 12 Nf7!? Gelfand suggested that 15 f5 would have been the only way to continue the attack though he was not convinced that white has sufficient compensation. Although Gelfand could have played 17..d6 and challenged Topalov to show what compensation he had, Gelfand's 17..Ne5 returned the material in exchange for a huge counterattack on the light squares.
May-02-12  PinnedPiece: GTM Par=30 Score=30.

Drat, I thought I was reading Gelfand's mind with 25. ..Qh3 which brought me even with par.....

but then bad choices *subtracted points* e.g. 27...Rxg3 (yes, stupid) and then was able to get back to par with 28...Rxg3 (again) and this time got my points back to par (computer gave me 3 points for what I consider to be a better move than the text).

.

Feb-24-13  Brian.elkhoury: I think 15.f5 would be best for white here.
