An Englishman: Good Evening: In the immediate post-WWII period, the Soviets overwhelmed the West with the aid of their discoveries in the KID, notably what Hans Kmoch called the Boleslavsky Wall, pawns c6 and d6 vs. pawns c4 and e4. When Steiner allowed Boleslavsky to play *his* variation, the poor guy had no idea what he was getting into.
Feb-15-09  ughaibu: Yes, 26...Rd1 looks good enough.
Feb-15-09  Everyone: <26...Rd1 looks good enough.> ...but not for Everyone!
Feb-20-09  Cees Verhagen: Boleslavsky, in his very good book;Selected games,gives : 26Qc1 Bd4 (threatening 27...Rxf1+) 27Qf4 Ne6 28Qf3 Nxc7 29Nc3 Rxg2!

plang: Steiner puts his pieces on the wrong squares leading to a passive position. 10 Be3 is better. 12 Nc2 and 13 Ne3 takes away the best suare for the bishop. 17 f4? leads to weaknesses at e4 and g4 that White can't overcome. Boleslavsky thought that 23..Bxe5 would have been simpler but the complications after 23..Rxe5 are fun for Black and don't jeopardize the win.

Phony Benoni: After a flurry of activity, the pieces are equal. But some pieces are more equal than others.
