Jul-18-06  Timothy Glenn Forney: Great game by Svidler I like 20.Bg5! and 21.Bxh6! his Bishop sac gives him a strategically won game.
May-21-17  Dave12: The prior idea of sacing the e5 pawn is brilliant.

  plang: This game was played in the European Club Cup. The line with 14 c4 has scored very well for White. 18..Nbd7 had been played in Svidler-Almasi Dortmund 1998 with White winning quickly; 18..Nxd5 was new. With 19..Nb4? Black completely underestimated the danger to his kingside; better was 19..Nf6 20 Nxf6+..Qxf6 21 Bd5..Nd7 22 Be3 with some edge for White. 20..hxg? 21 Nfg5..g6 22 Qf3..Qe7 23 Qxf7+..Qxf7 24 Bxf7+ would have won easily for White. 22..dxe 23 Ng5..Nd5 24 Qh5..Qf5 25 g4..Qg6 26 Qxg6..fxg 27 Ra1..Bb7 28 Ra7 would also have won for White. Still another winning line would have been 23..Nxe1 24 Qh5..Qf5 25 Nf6+!..gxf 26 Qxf7+..Kh8 27 Qxe8..fxg 28 Bxe1..Nd7 29 Qxa8..Qb1 30 Qa5..Nc5 31 Ba2. 24 Qh5 (possibly transposing into the previous variation) would have been an improvement. 24..Nf4 would have been a tougher defense; after 25 Rc3..Bb4 26 Rc7 White would still have had a solid advantage.

A really nice attacking game by Svidler - voted the 3rd best game of Informant 82.
