plang: The second and last game in the finals match of this knockout tournament; Adams won 2-0 to win the event. Earlier in the same tournament Hodgson, with Black, had played 10..Bf5 against Davies and the game had ended in a draw; 10..Re8 was new. Adfams was critical of 14..bxc? after the game considering 14..Bf5 or 14..Bd7 to be better options. The straightforward 20 Nxf6+..Nxf6 21 Nd5 would have maintained a solid White edge. And again 21 Bg2 or 21 Ba3 would have been more solid than the move played. Black started to take over the initiative after 35 Rc1?; better was 35 Qc3..e4 36 Kg1..Bh5 37 Rc6..Rxc6 38 Qxc6..a5 with unclear complications. After 38 Rg1? White was lost; 38 Rc6..Qxd5 39 Qc3..Rb6 would have been a tougher defense. White resigned due to 41..Rxg1+ 42 Kxg1..Bf3 43 h5..Qh6.
