  FSR: Popping Korn.
Jun-01-24  goodevans: The only remarkable thing about the game is how long it took Black to resign. What did he think was going to save him? And as for 35...Qe4??... Jeez!

The Korn-y pun wasn't really worth the 12 year wait either.

FSR: Unfortunately, I must concede that <goodevans>'s critique has merit. I came up with the pun and this was the best game I could find to attach it to. Maybe I should have passed. H Pingitzer vs A Korn, 2003 probably wasn't in the database 12 years ago, or I would surely have nominated it instead.

I A Horowitz vs Fine, 1934 still holds the record for the longest known period between pun submission and use as GOTD: 12 years, 4 months, and 18 days.

Jun-01-24  lentil: Doesn't CG have a rule that for a game to be include, at least one player must be rated < 2000?
Jun-02-24  whiteshark: Is this a question for <Radio Yerevan>?

I assume you meant greater than 2000, not less than 2000, which is what you wrote. The relevant chessgames guideline for submission of games states:

<We try to focus on the most instructive and interesting chess games. Therefore it is strongly suggested that at least one of the players—and preferably both—should be master strength or better (2200+ ELO).> PGN Upload Utility

Games by non-masters are sometimes instructive and interesting. And there are many games in the database where neither player is master strength. Take a look at games from girls' tournaments and Women's Olympiads, for starters. Here's a game from the 1939 Women's World Championship for you: A Lougheed-Freedman vs C Roodzant, 1939.

Jun-02-24  lentil: @<FSR>. You are correct about the embarrassing typo. And thank you for the info.
