Jul-05-04  dac1990: What a minature. I know both 7. ...Kf6 and 7. ...Kf8 lose, but what about 7. ...Ke8?
Jul-05-04  maddy: how Kf8 lose ?
Oct-30-05  DeepBlade: I will give you a hint,

After Kf8 White gives check with Qf3.
Then it forks the hell out of Black with Nf7.

Oct-30-05  Averageguy: <DeepBlade> after 7...Kf8 8.Qf3+ black can block with 8...Nf6 or 8...Bf6 If black plays 8...Ke8 9.Nf7 doesn't exactly "fork the hell out of black" as after 9...Qa5 black threatens 10...cxd4 winning the knight and 10.dxc5 loses to 10...Bxc3+ bxc3 Qxc3+ winning the a1 rook, and if white plays 10.Nxh8 then black plays 10...cxd4 and will win the Nc3, followed by winning the Nh8, and will have three minor pieces for a rook and pawn, a heavy material advantage. Black seems to be able to win after 7.Kf/e8, this miniature looks unsound to me.
Oct-30-05  lopium: I love chess!!! But here I'm too in extasy!!!! ahahaahzz!!!! That's true!! I'm listening to Jean Michel Jarre, Oxygen 4. Nice! Game. Win, lost.
Oct-30-05  Granite: 7. ... Kf8 8. Qf3+ and say, Nf6 still looks very bad after e5 winning back the piece with a loosened king.

If 7. ...Ke8 then Qf3 threatens to win the bishop back, and blocking runs into the same problem as above since there is not other way to control f7.

Although it might not be immediately winning, I definitely wouldn't want to be black in this position with the king unable to castle, the center blown open and material more or less even.

Oct-31-05  Averageguy: <Granite>In your line 7...Ke8 8.Qf3 if 8...Nh6 I don't see anything for white, he is down a piece and black will play ...Rf8. Still I could be wrong.
Nov-06-05  DeepBlade: <Avarageguy>
8. Qf3+ Ke8
9. Nf7 Qa5
10. Nxh8 cxd4

This is the line we are talking about right?

<Avarageguy>after 7...Kf8 8.Qf3+ black can block with 8...Nf6 or 8...Bf6 If black plays 8...Ke8 9.Nf7 doesn't exactly "fork the hell out of black" as after 9...Qa5 <this move is allowing the White Knight to take the Rook> black threatens 10...cxd4<after cxd4 White gives check with 10.Qf7+ defending the c3 square> winning the knight<which Knight, the one who took the Rook, or the one on c3?> and 10.dxc5 loses to 10...Bxc3+ bxc3 Qxc3+ winning the a1 rook <remember the 8.Qf7+? the Queen is defending the potential fork>, and if white plays 10.Nxh8 then black plays 10...cxd4 and will win the Nc3, followed by winning the Nh8, and will have three minor pieces for a rook and pawn, a heavy material advantage. <DeepBlade> take a look at these lines after 10. ...cxd4

<11. Qf7+ Kd7 12. Qxg7 dxc3 13. bxc3 Nf6 14. Bb2 Qe5>

<11. Qf7+ Kd7 12. Qxg7 dxc3 13. O-O Nf6 14. Re1 Qb4 15. bxc3 Qxc3>

<11. Qf7+ Kd7 12. Qxg7 dxc3 13. b4 Qxb4 14. Qxg8 Qxe4+ 15. Be3 Qxg2 16. O-O-O>
