Nov-03-03  Shadout Mapes: Here's a really nice trap.
Nov-04-03  MichaelJHuman: Given that 6. Nf3 is not inherently bad, and 6...Bg4 appears to be a blunder, is it still called a trap?
Nov-04-03  Benjamin Lau: Michael J Human, what on earth are you talking about? Of course 6. Nf3 is not inherently bad, why must it be "given?" It's fairly obvious. And about 6...Bg4 being a blunder, aren't most opening traps sprung from blunders? Why would that cause this to be not labeled as a trap? Not too sure what you're trying to get to.
Nov-04-03  Shadout Mapes: I call it a trap cause white grabbed black's queen. If that offends you, i'll change it to "miniature." And it looks like black's 6th, 9th, and 11th moves are all pretty bad, at a casual glance.
Nov-05-03  MichaelJHuman: I was not challenging the use of your term trap as much as I was trying to learn something. I had always had this vision of a trap starting with some unorthodox move. Apparently, that is a mis-understanding on my own part.

Not trying to be mean or anything, but I still don't understand what you're getting at. 6... Bg4 IS an unorthodox move in that position and sets the trap into motion. I don't see why you think that is a misunderstanding. ;-)

Jan-28-04  dukesterdog: For patzers like me who didn't see it, the continuation resulting in the loss of black's queen is 13...Kxf6 14. Qh4+ skewering the queen.
Jan-28-04  dukesterdog: That should be 12...Kxf6 13. Qh4+
Jan-28-04  akiba82: Isn't the opening the Danish Gambit? I thought the Center Game consisted of 3. Qd4 Nc6 4. Qe3.

fredthebear: 5...d6? Instead 5...Bb4+ is best for Black, or develop a knight and then play 6...Bb4+.

After 5...d6? Stockfish suggests: 1) +0.20 (19 ply) 6.Nf3 Nd7 7.O-O Nc5 8.Re1 Be6 9.Nbd2 Qd7 10.Rb1 b5 11.Bxe6 Nxe6 12.Nh4 c5 13.Nf5 c4 14.a4 a6 15.Ra1 Rd8 16.axb5 axb5
