  plang: The day before at the same tournament 17 b3 was played in the draw Savchenko-Damljanovic; 17 Nd2?! was new but has not been repeated. 26 Rd3..Qh4 27 Rf1..Rxg2+ 28 Kxg2..f3+ 29 Rdxf3..Qxc4 30 Bxf8..Bxf8 31 Kxf8..Bg7 would have been strong for Black. Black wins after 28 Bxf8 (White's best was probably 28 Bxf4..Qf6 though this is still winning for Black) 28..hxg 29 h4..Qxh4 30 Qxf4..Bd4+! 31 Qxd4..Qh2+ 32 Kf1..Qh1+ 33 Qg1..Qxf3+ 34 34 Ke1..Qxc3+ 35 Kf1..Qxa1#.

Volokitin did not really express an opinion as to where White went wrong. Allowing ..Rxb2 certainly seems very risky though.
