Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-03-03  bishop: The doubled Pawns was not enough compensation for Howell's exchange of his King's Bishop, as the position was already too open. Speelman's 14...Qb6! fixed his Pawns nicely and his 28...Rf6! won a Pawn. Lesson for young Howell: Don't part with your Bishops so readily.
Sep-04-03  seoulmama: It's all theory, even the bishop exchange. Though I agree with u that it should not be enough.
Sep-06-03  Sylvester: Chessmetrics has Speelman in the top 10 in the late 1980s. Is he famous for anything special?

Eggman: Speelman was a candidates' semi-finalist in 1989, losing a very close match to Timman. Speelman had decisively beaten Yasser Seirawan and Nigel Short along the way. In the following candidates' series, he lost to Short (the eventual winner) in overtime.
Dec-02-05  AdrianP: Speelman was especially strong in endgames and thinking outside the box.
Nov-26-06  mack: <Speelman was a candidates' semi-finalist in 1989>

Come on lads, Jon's not dead!
