Kibitzer's Corner
May-29-12  Whitehat1963: Obviously, 22...Nf3 23. Rxe6 Nxd2 24. Rxe8+ Rxe8 25. Nxf6+ Kf8 26. Nxe8 Kxe8. And black clearly has the advantage being a up a knight and some extra pawns.

But could white have saved this? I was looking at 22. Qh6 specifically. Isn't there anything better than 22. Kh1??

May-29-12  TimothyLucasJaeger: After 22 Qh6 Nf3+ 23 gxf3 Qe1+ 24 Kg2 Re2+ 25 Kh3 Qf1+ 26 Kg3 (26 Kh4 Rxh2+ is no better) black has at least

26 ... Rg2+ and 27 ... Rg6, and he'll still be a rook up after saccing the exchange on f6.

Black can probably do better with 26 ... Qg2+, e.g. 27 Kf4 Qxh2+ 28 Kf5 (28 Kg4 Rg2+ 29 Kf5 Qe5 #) Qe5+ 29 Kg4 Rg2+ and Qh2# next.

I think the only other try (after 22 Qh6) would be 23 Kf2 but it doesn't look pretty ;)
