Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-20-04  Gypsy: Black has a difficult problem: How to stop the cental pawns of White. It could be that 14...Na6(?) was the already deciding error, but 14...Nd7 also has its drawbacks. Perhaps a6 is the only move; it keeps White knight off b5, allows Ra7, and at least hints at b6-b5 and so on. I'd take White position here any time, though. Bologan's play looks textbook bound!
Jun-20-04  shr0pshire: I would agree judging from Saturday's game and today's game that his play is very textbookish. I think he will get more textbook opportunities the further in the fide championship he goes. I would think the most surprises as far as out of the book would come in the first two rounds or so.

Great game Bologan. I am rooting for Bologan to move on to round 2. He is a strong blitz player, and hopefully that will help him in his rapid game. I don't know much about GM Paragua but I would watch out for Bologan's blitz skills.

Jun-23-04  jeffnool: after 7.Re1 black should have tried 7...Na6!? i think this is the main line

LIFE Master AJ: I think Mark Paragua is only an IM.
Got to http://www.chessbase.com, then click on the links on the left-hand side of the page that is for: "Player Database."

You can also look up a player's 'card' at the FIDE website. (http://www.fide.com)

LIFE Master AJ: Even with a computer - it is not easy to pin down exactly where Black went wrong in this game! (Maybe 14...Na6 was inaccurate?) Black's 27th move was a mistake ... but Black was (also) already lost here, so it did not matter.

Aug-09-05  PhilFeeley: What was an IM doing at the World Championships? I thought only GMs would be there.

This only gives further credence that GM Milov's critique of the FIDE is valid: (http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...)

Aug-09-05  acirce: <What was an IM doing at the World Championships?> Well, he qualified for it by finishing second in the Asian 3.2a Zonal Chess Championships. Why should you need a certain title? And what does that have to do with Milov's criticism?
Aug-09-05  refutor: you shouldn't need a certain title...that's what the idea of having a qualification system is all about.
Sep-12-05  rjsolcruz: if you think that im mark paragua is lucky to be there with gm bologan in the 2004 world championship, think again. mark is now a full-pledge gm! and think harder, mark has topped his zonal and has again qualified to the world championship!!!

titles are titles but don't judge a book by its cover.
