Gypsy: Black wins a pawn early but Krasenkow makes holding the game look easy.
Jun-30-04  karlzen: Well, actually I think it's a pawn sac (deliberate). Very strange though, deep, hard to see the immediate compensation. A long-term positional sacrifice! :)

Peligroso Patzer: The seemingly dubious sacrifice 10. Ng5 was repeated yesterday in F Caruana vs W So, 2010, where Black declined with 10. ... c5. The eventual result was 1-0 in 49 moves after So went astray near the end of the first time control.

Peligroso Patzer: It is perhaps worth noting that this was the second game of the mini-match and that Krasenkow had won the first game: Krasenkow vs V Zvjaginsev, 2004. Thus, Krasenkow needed only a draw in this game to clinch the match, which may explain why he chose the simplifying 15. ... Qxf2+, when 15. ... Qh5 would probably have been a better try to play for a win.
