plang: Played at Dortmund 2000 (a 10 player round robin). Developing the queen knight at d2 keeps the game out of mainline English theory. 11..Qd7 was new; 11..a5 had been played previously. At the last move of the time control Bareev played 40 Kf2? missing a win with 40 Rd7!..Ra5 41 Rd5..a6 42 Rd6+..Kg7 43 Rxb6..axb 44 Kf2. However Huebner missed his drawing chance erring with 40..h5?; better was 40..Ra5 41 Kf3..Rxb5 42 Rxa7..Rb1 and with the rook protecting the b pawn from the front he can advance it creating sufficient counterplay.
