 | | fredthebear: <Chicago Chess Man: If white takes the rook, 28 ... Ne2+ wraps things up nicely. Great finish.> So White plays 28.Rae1 to guard against Ne2+ and to threaten the Black queen. She moves 28...Qf5 not just to protect the Rd3, but to arrange a discovered attack with check by 29...Rxg3+ that wins the loose White queen. In the final position, the White queen lacks a safe, active square to relocate to and avoid the coming discovered attack, as the Black queen is also threatening a lethal 29...Qf3 battery on the long diagonal. White cannot safely prevent the Q-B battery with 29.Re3 RxR 30.QxQf5 Ne2#. If 29.f4 the same discovered attack on the loose White queen is applied with 29...Rxg3+ and 30...QxQc2. So, the uninspiring 29.f3 just loses the f-pawn after 29...Rxf3 30.QxQf5 RxQf5. Then simplification continues as the rooks will be exchanged on the f-file as well, leaving White down material and less active against Black's bishop pair. |

Jun-05-23 | | Brenin: 27 ... Rxd3, threatening 28 ... Ne2+ which forces 29 Qxe2 Qxe2. If White tries 28 Rae1 or Rfe1 then 28 ... Qf5. with the threat of 29 ... Rxg3+ winning the Q, or 29 ... Qf3 and Qg2 mate, wins. |

Jun-05-23 | | jrredfield: This didn't come Monday-easy for me since it appears that there are several moves that will win for Black. Best I believe is 27 ... Rxd3 28 Qxd3 Ne2+ 29 Qxe2 Qxe2 and Black is ahead the equivalent of 3 pawns or so. But I also considered 27 ... Qh5 28 f3 Bxf3 29 Nd7 Be7 30 Rxf3 Qxf3. 27 ... Bc5 also looks promising. |

Jun-05-23 | | geeker: Tough for Monday. Found 27...Rxd3, but only after rejecting several other candidates. |
|
Jun-05-23 | | Mayankk: White King has no escape squares, with the long a8-h1 diagonal dominated by the Black light-squared Bishop. That opens up tactical possibilities via Ne2+ if the d3 White Bishop can be removed. So we remove the defender via 27 ... Rxd3 28 Qxd3 and now 28 ... Ne2+ works as intended. White can play on with 29 Qxe2 Qxe2 but resigning will save time. |

Jun-05-23 | | King.Arthur.Brazil: Yeah... you know the King likes to capture the enemy's♕: 27...Rxd3 28. Qxd3 Ne2+ 29. Qxe2 Qxe2! Mondays! |
|
Jun-05-23 | | King.Arthur.Brazil: Well, there is a 2nd part? I tried 28.Rae1 Txg3+
A) 29. fxg3 Bc5+ 30. Rf2 Qxe1# or
B) 29. fxg3 Bc5+ 30. Qf2 Bxf2+ 31. Kxf2 Qd4+ 32. Re3 Qd2+ 33. Kg1 Qxe3+ 34. Rf2 Qe1+ 35. Rf1 Ne2# .
C)But for 29. hxg3 Qh5 30. f3 Bxg3 31. Re3 Bf4 32. Rd3 Qg5+ 33. Qg2 Be3+ 34. Rxe3 Qxe3+ 35. Qf2 Ne2+ 36. Kh1 Qh6+ 37. Qh2 Ng3+ 38. Kg1 Qxh2+ 39. Kxh2 Nxf1+ has so much possibilities in between... maybe, in doubt about this part, I'd chose the simple 28... Rd4 with 2♗ by 1 ♖.The correct is 29... Qf5! (I didn't see it), when 29. f3 Bc5+ 30. Kg2 Rxf3 A) 31. Qxf5 Rf2+ 32. Kg1 Rg2+ 33. Kh1 Rg1# or Rf2+ 32. Kh3 Bg2+ 33. Kh4 Be7+ 34. Kg4 exf5#
B) 31. Rxf3 Qxf3+ 32. Kh3 Qh5# |

Black wins _ mate in 15. |

Jun-05-23 | | agb2002: Black has a bishop and a pawn for a rook.
The white bishop prevents Ne2+. Therefore, 27... Rxd3: A) 28.Qxd3 Ne2+ 29.Qxe2 Qxe2 wins.
B) 28.Ra(f)e1 Qf5) wins decisive material and threatens Rxg3+, followed by Qxc2, and Qf3. |

 | | Sally Simpson: A standard but must know Bishop and Knight mating pattern. 27...Rxd3 sets it up. A couple of moves before the POTD position there are quite a few other tactical ideas. click for larger viewInstead of 26...Bd6. Which is OK.
Black can go for 26...Rh4 27.g3 Rxh2 or play right away 26...Rxd3 27.Qxd3 Ne2+ 28. Kh1 Bxg2+ With the WQ lured to d3 then there is a Knight fork with Nf4+ Just two of the ideas knocking about in there, |

Jun-05-23 | | TheaN: <27....Rxd3> and that's that, given 28.Qxd3 Ne2+ -+ or the text. The bishop was overworked just a tad bit too much. |
