Oct-28-04  themindset: great example of how to play the english attack.
Oct-28-04  Kean: That could be called a successful attack. And in the end there was mate by all sides, thanks to the e7 rook and white control on g8 either by the bishop, the knight or the rook.

  plang: 12..b5 13 g5!..Nh5 (because the White king is on b1 13..b4? 14 gxf..bxc 15 fxe doesn't work for Black} 14 Nd5..Bxd5 15 exd followed by Na5 and Nc6 would give White a strong initiative on the queenside but this still seems like Black's best chance as without a queenside pawn storm he doesn't seem to get enough counterplay. 14 h5 is played so that when g5 is played the defense ..Nh5 and ..g6 is not available. 14..Nfd7 had been played a few times previously; 14..h6? was new but it has not been repeated as it just fuels White's kingside attack. 17..d4 18 Bxf6..Bxf6 19 Qh6..Qe7 20 Rd2..dxc 21 Rdg2..g6 22 hxg..fxg 23 23 Qxg6+..Qg7 24 Qxg7+..Bxg7 25 Rxg7+..Kh8 26 R7g6 would have been winning for White. 18..dxe 19 Bxf6..exd 20 Rxg7+..Kf8 21 Bxe7+..Kxg7 22 Rg1+..Kh7 23 Bf6 would have given White a decisive attack. 24..Nf4 25 Bh7+..Kxh7 26 g8(Q)+..Rxg8 27 Qh2 would have not affected the final result.
