Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-06-04  kevin86: This game has some unusual points:

The move 2...♕e7 has an unusual feature-it protects the pawn at e5. Another feature is the Nimzo-esque overprotection of same pawn-at one time defended five times!

An odd feature-never thought of-promotion costs a pawn!! After the promotion at d8 and the subsequent exchanges-black winds up a pawn plus!

Black then sets up the promotion of his long suffering a-pawn to win.

Mar-17-06  who: Isn't 45.Bxg5 much better. After 45.Bxg5 Kxe8 46.Bxh4 if white can sac a knight for the h-pawn it's clear he has a draw, and even if the best he can do is sac a bishop it's probably still good enough.

This game must have infuriated Lane. Black seems to play anti-positionally from start to finish and yet it's white who ends up losing.

Apr-21-06  Whitehat1963: A complex and interesting game that features the Opening of the Day. Black, rated 99 points lower, comes out ahead. I like the finish:

54. Rxh4+ Kg5
55. Ra4 Re1+
56. Kd3 a1=Q
57. Rxa1 Bxa1
58. Nf5+ Kg5

And white is as dead as a Norwegian blue parrot

Jul-29-08  parisattack: A very strange game, indeed - although I've played the opening and had success with it. Not knowing I would have guessed this played by a couple of 1700 clubbers.
Feb-05-09  whiteshark: <43.Bd4+!!> would have been the winning move.

Mar-26-12  hesyrett: Instead of 13. Rd1 I'd suggest 13. Ba6 as an improvement.  Go for the weaknesses created by 11...b5.
Nov-19-15  SvetlanaBabe: Lane played like a 1700 clubber here! Hahahaha
Dec-04-16  Atking: Give some credit to his opponent. But sure a kind of defence that Morphy was able to crush nearly 150 years ago. Maybe immediately 10.Qd3 as now 10...Nd7 11.BxN+ KxB 13.Ba3 White could open the game with Nd2 and f4.
