Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-08-04  InspiredByMorphy: White gambits a pawn in the opening, and gets full compensation. Is it sound, or could black have defended better?
Nov-08-04  suenteus po 147: <InspiredByMorphy> Sorry, but I don't see the gambited pawn to which you refer. Maybe a move number?
Nov-08-04  InspiredByMorphy: <suenteus po 147> My apologies. I must have been hallucinating.
Nov-08-04  InspiredByMorphy: <suentes po 147> Out of curiosity. Do you think that black touched the knights too much in the opening? The queen knight 3 times and the King knight 4 times? It seems as though blacks opening strategy allows white to develop too rapidly. What do you think?
Nov-08-04  suenteus po 147: <InspiredByMorphy> The Sicilian has never been my strong suit (which is why I avoid 1.e4 like the plague now that I play in local tournaments), but I would have to say that all the Knight moves yielded very little. I believe that when venturing into enemy territory with already developed pieces (as black does with the knights) I either should be seeking permanent position to root in, or exchanges and sacs that disrupt or weaken the opponents development. Black's knight moves do neither, since the one exchange leads to developing the White Queen, and the other Knight (unable to take root) is forced back to a starting position.

BTW What happened to your long explanation? I thought it very instructional and helpful.

Nov-08-04  InspiredByMorphy: <suentus po 147> I dont know if your being sarcastic or not about the explanation, but Ill answer anyway. I saw the rapid retreating movements of the King knight and thought white sacrificed a pawn. Clearly no such thing was done. Perhaps I should get a little more sleep ... :)
Nov-08-04  suenteus po 147: <InspiredByMorphy> No sarcasm meant at all. As much as I've seen myself improve in the last year I still don't have the depth of vision, or the inspiration for varying lines that many other kibitzers here seem to have, so I'm always grateful when someone takes the time to respond in detail to a question I have. I didn't see black's attack on h2 (after 6.d3) until you pointed it out in your (now deleted) post. It was something significant that was both instructional (in playing the opening) and helpful (explaining where you saw the lost pawn).

Re: sarcasm. I personally have found that sarcasm almost never works on a text basis. It creates confusion, or worse animosity, so I personally refrain from using it unless I feel obligated to in the interest of humor :) When it comes to kibitzers being helpful (as you were) I try never to joke. It's worth more than that.

Nov-08-04  InspiredByMorphy: <suenteus po 147> Thank you for the consideration and kindness. I appreciate the reply.
