Oct-13-05  Knight13: 10... Nxd5!! The best move I've ever seen in this kind of variation. IN other games Black didn't play this.
Oct-13-05  aw1988: <Knight13> Sarcasm?
Oct-14-05  Knight13: <aw1988: <Knight13> Sarcasm?> Define "Sarcasm"
Oct-14-05  aw1988: Saying something that you don't mean, I think.

fredthebear: This finish is Greco's Mate.

There are lots of variation of Greco's Mate. Sometimes the queen trades roles with the bishop or sacrificial rook. Sometimes the h-pawn is pinned, which allows the Ng6#; at other times the knight is sacrificed to open the h-file. This link of examples is well worth your time: https://chessfox.com/grecos-mate/#:...

fredthebear: The actual finish to the game above would go 19...KxRh7 20.Qh3+ Bh4 21.QxBh4+ Qh5 22.QxQh5#, 1-0 Greco's Mate by the White queen after the rook sacrifice.

Here's Greco's Mate by Black using a different B-N-Q pattern: A Dusek vs Nepustil, 1915

Here's a clean Greco's Mate by Black using a B-N-Q pattern with good kibitz notes: NN vs V Kahn, 1941

Students would do well to study these links everyday for a week. Greco's Mate and threats of Greco's Mate is more prevalent than most realize. The f-pawn is a critical weak link before and after castling kingside.
