20 Bh6+ Kxh6 21 Rh3+ Kg5 22 Rh5+ Kf4 23 Kf2 Rg8 24 g3+ Rxg3 25 hxg3# Perhaps what Sergeant meant to say was that Morphy had a mate in 7 on his 19th move:
19 Rf4 (Rf3 also works just as well) Kg7 20 Bh6+ Kxh6 21 Rh4+ Kg5 22 Rh5+ Kf4 23 Kf2 Rg8 24 g3+ Rxg3 25 hxg3# Carr didn't make the best possible move on his 18th turn. He could also have played Kg7, Rc8, Rd8, Re8, or Rg8, any one of which could have prolonged the game. And no, Jaymthetactician, I'm sure DOCTOR Carr wasn't 7 years old at the time. I gotta admit, he plays chess better than some people I know! |

Kasparovs simul games for instance are boring, he plays closed positions and maneuvers, winning a pawn and converting it on move 50, not to say his technique isn't iron. |
