LIFE Master AJ: If you have the interest, I can definitely recommend the new book: < "Garry Kasparov's Greatest Chess Games," (Volume 2). >

It's by GM Igor Stohl and was just recently released (May, 2006) by Gambit Publications.

Anyway - this game is in there ... and it is deeply annotated. (Great stuff, recommended for any Kasparov fan or student just trying to improve. How could you go wrong by closely studying one of the greatest players who ever lived?)

paulalbert: <AJ> I presume you are also positive on Stohl's volume 1 on Kasapaov's games as well. I have Stohl's " Instructive Modern Chess Masterpieces" which also is a high quality book. Paul Albert

Jun-21-06  blingice: People need to learn that they can copy and paste their old message into the new message box, make that change, post it, then delete their other message. It really doesn't take ingenuity or skill.
Jun-21-06  NakoSonorense: <aw1988:><Lol. I meant that as a joke. I pity the soul who does not watch The Simpsons.> I have never everrr watched the Simpsons. Not even for 5 minutes.

  LIFE Master AJ: Paul:

Yes, I reviewed that book (Vol. I) on Amazon ... I found almost nothing bad to say about it. (In fact, it was pretty darned good.)

I can already tell you I will definitely give this one five stars as well. - A.J.

Jun-21-06  blingice: <NakoSonorense: I have never everrr watched the Simpsons. Not even for 5 minutes.>

That's too bad. Despite it's humor, it is very politically and socially (more socially) poingant than you'd believe, "South Park" as well (which is more political). I'd recommend watching them both, as they are both satires of behavior.

I tried to review the new Stohl book (Kasparov's Best Games, Vol. II); but Amazon would not accept the review. (They consider it all the same book/product ... each person is limited to one review per product or book.)

However, I created a new page and posted it on my website ... you may read it there, if you are interested.

Jul-21-06  MrMelad: Kasparov decided in this tournament to go after the f2 pawn whenever he played the black pieces. Like in

Vallejo-Pons vs Kasparov, 2005

Good game, it looks easy...

Aug-20-06  you vs yourself: Excellent novelty and a fantastic finish by Kasparov!
Jan-10-07  adviser: The moral story of what I learned after seeing kaspy's games is "never repair your damaged pawn structure or position unless you have free tempi instead, attack your opponent on wthe strenght you have in your position".
Jul-26-08  aazqua: Ouch. How did this guy ever get to be world champ? He's got to be 200 or more below Garry.
Dec-26-08  Trojan Horse: Kasparov himself annotates this game:

Nov-24-10  Hesam7: <Honza Cervenka: 21. Qe2 would have been definitely more interesting. I would like to see what Garry intended to play after that.>

My guess is 21. ... Kh8 followed by ... b4 to undermine the e4-pawn.

Nov-24-10  Hesam7: 21. Qe2:

And now Stockfish 1.9.1 gives the following truncated line @ depth 30: 21. ... Bd4 22. a4 Kh8 23. axb5 (-0.04)

FSR: Imagine, at the time of this game Kasim was the reigning FIDE World Champion. I'd say Kasparov was a little better.
Mar-23-15  LoveThatJoker: A nice win by, the then former World Champoion, Kasparov in his final tournament as a competitive chess professional.

<FSR> Kasparov was ever so slightly the better chess player at the time. :D

LTJ

Mar-23-15  kevin86: the extra pawns will win for black.
Mar-23-15  rainingpieces: 32..Rh2+ looks nice, but the king can escape to f3. An interesting detail in my opinion
May-22-15  greenfield67: Hmm. I was so focused on stopping 30.Qe6+ that I ruled out everything which allowed it, including 29...Bg3. And so my question - how bad is 30.Qe6+ after the game continuation?
May-22-15  M.Hassan: "Difficult"
Black to play 29....?
Black has a Bishop+pawn for a Rook.

29..........e2
30.Qxe2 Bxg3
<if 31.hxg3 Nxg3+ and winning the Queen> 31.Qg2 Rf2
32.Ra8+ Kg7
33.Ra7+ Kh6

White can no longer check the King and has to save his Queen: 34.Qh3 Rxh2+
35.Qxh2 Bxh2
White has to continue a Queenless game.
Time to check
=================
Miles different!!! but I don't see what is wrong with my line. Any comments appreciated.

  al wazir: <My solution was similar to <M.Hassan>'s: 29...e2 30. Qxe2 Nxg3+ 31. hxg3 Qxg3 32. Qe6+ (32. Qf1 Rf4, threatening Rh4+) Kg7 33. Qd7+ Kh6 34. Rf1 Rf4 35. Rxf2 Rxf2, with mate to follow.
May-22-15  greenfield67: <al wazir> I had what you had up until 32.Qe6+, but I think White probably has defensive resources thereafter that I haven't properly considered yet: Ra7+ looks like it might be useful somewhere down the line.
