Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-09-06  CitricAcid13: Evan's Gambit demolished the king because of its poor positioning, a passed pawn and lack of development. Anything new?
May-10-09  psmith: 29...Nxe4 refutes Staunton's play.

Later, Staunton misses mate in two with 33. exd8/Q+.

(Thanks to ol' Fritz.)

May-11-09  mendellevin: Still, Staunton's long term sacrifice is bold and interesting (and modern?).
May-12-09  psmith: 23. Nxc3 is better -- and gives White good compensation.
Aug-28-13  sneaky pete: Here Staunton missed a # in 2

The Big Mac or The Mighty Morph would have played a game like this without Ra1, but Howie Zowie really needed that Rook.

  jnpope: Re-dated based on the source now attached to the PGN (previously dated 1856). Will date back to 1856 if someone provides evidence.

  Sally Simpson: Same 22 moves as in Kolisch vs Hirschfeld, 1864 then we to get to here. Black to play.

Hirschfeld played 22...Ke7 which was a TN in 1864 but now the Staunton game has jumped from 1856 to 1868 NN's 22...Bc3 is the TN.

NN missed a glorious chance to wrap this up. Here Instead of 29...Nxd5?;
