Mar-07-10  sneaky pete: Will they ever learn? I've submitted around 1.000 corrections since I became a member here, and in this game the names of both players are wrong. It should of course be Snits vs Ljouwert.

Stonehenge: According to http://www.philidor160.nl/Boek1.pdf, this game was played in 1853/1854.
Apr-12-14  thomastonk: A third possibilty is given in "Het Schaakspel in Nederland" by Dr.A.v.d. Linde, Utrecht 1875, p.180, where the years 1865-66 are given. This book contains also a list of chess clubs on pages 148-149, where Sneek has the year 1861, which probably means the year of foundation.

The years 1865-66 are repeated in a text by the same author which appeared in two sources of 1875 ("De Schaakwerld" and "De Kerkvaders der Schaakgemeente"), and there the club names 'Palamedes' and 'Philidor' are mentioned.

Apr-13-14  thomastonk: <Stonehenge> Based on the precise information given in your source, I assume that 1853-54 should be the right years. And since Sissa is mentioned I searched in about 10 volumes. Probably I overlooked it ...

jnpope: <Correspondenz-Partien>, Bledow, Leipzig 1872, p77, gives the game and dates it 1865-1866.

Changed until an earlier source is found.

jnpope: And found in <Sissa>, v20, 1866, pp197-200, which I think can cement the 1865-1866 date.
