Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-28-05  patzer2: Hector emerges from the opening to find himself with a win in the middle game. The only problem is "winning a won game" against an experienced fighter like Timman.

Hector errs with 37...Bd5?!, missing the winning deflection 37...c5!, which would have allowed the capture of the pawn on e4 with decisive advantage.

Fritz 8 gives 37... c5! 38. R4d6 Rxe4 39. Qd3 Ree7 40. Rc8 c4 41. Qd2 Qe5 42. Bf3 f4! 43. Rdd8 g6! (43... a3? 44.h5 =) 44. Qb4 fxg3+ 45. fxg3 b5 46. Kg2 Qb2! 47. Rd2 Qf6! 48. Qxb5 c3 49. Rdd8 h5 50. Rc5 Re5 51. Rdc8 Rxc5 52. Qxc5 c2 53. Rc6 Qe7 54. Qc3 Rg7 55. Rc5 a3 56. Rc8 a2 and Black wins easily.

Apr-28-05  mr. nice guy: Black clearly should have won. However "Jonny Hector" sounds like a Hollywood pseudonym so maybe it was just a show.
Apr-28-05  patzer2: Hector apparently missed a chance to draw with the defensive resource 49...Rd7! leading to a perpetual:

49... Rd7! 50. f6+ Kxg6 51. Qg4+ Kxf6! 52. Qxd7 Qh5+ 53. Kg2 Qe2+ 54. Kg1 Qe1+ 55. Kg2 Qe2+ 56. Kh3 Qh5+ = with a draw by perpetual check.

Apr-28-05  patzer2: Actually GM Hector is Sweedish but has married a Danish lady and lived in Denmark for over 10 years according to http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail....
Apr-28-05  patzer2: With four wins, three losses and two draws, GM Hector did well in this tournament. Certainly, GM Hector is a true fighter and one can't accuse him of giving "too many Grand Master draws."
