Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-31-05  iron maiden: Tough break for Beliavsky...leading with two rounds to go, he blunders this endgame and ends up third on -1.
Sep-04-05  cade: Beliavsky would have faced a tough time in this end game even without hanging his Bishop. He was going a pawn down and the amount of pawns still on the board favoured McShanes 2 Knights.

I think the real blunder by Beliavsky was Qxd3+ or indeed that whole exchange sequence which he initiated.

Sep-04-05  euripides: <He was going a pawn down> How does White make progress after 63...Bc3 ?

  samvega: <euripedes> Just a sketch of an idea: Ke2 & Nc4-a3-c2 & Nd3-f2-d1 creates a corral...
Sep-04-05  euripides: <sam> Interesting idea. If Black in the meantime plays Ne6 he could then play Bd4 and if Nxd4 take back with the knight (even if White has moved his king to d3). Maybe after Bd4 White could try to get Nc4-d6 in. Difficult to assess.
Dec-23-05  waddayaplay: Beliavsky is perhaps better uo until the blunder, because of whites pawns on black squares.

Put bishop on c3 / d4, king on f6 , play g5 in one idea to progress.

Dec-23-05  waddayaplay: I think I would have played something irrational like 24...Qh3
