Sep-08-05  THE pawn: Wow this game is awsome, a game involving pure attack from both sides. Altough AJ lost, I must say this game was really entertaining.

LIFE Master AJ: Valvo played well. (What else can I say?)

James Demery: A 2368 rating means he was close to IM strength. I understand he has since passed away.

LIFE Master AJ: Wow. Valvo is dead? Are you sure?
Aug-03-10  ounos: Oh boy. Did this also take place in front of cameras? :D

James Demery: According to his profile he passed away in 2004. Did you know him well?

James Demery: Sorry AJ, I just saw your link on Valvo`s page. Please exscuse my late reply.

LIFE Master AJ: I knew Michael pretty well. We rubbed elbows at many events over the years. I remember we sat at adjacent tables one year at the U.S. Amateur Team Champ. (East - I was a "drop in" ... I went with a friend, who was in the Navy In Pensacola. He was going home to see family.)

This was the only game that we ever played, he thrashed me pretty well.

LIFE Master AJ: Wow, that really stinks. (The fact that M. Valvo has passed away ... and I did not even know it. Bummed me out, big time.)

LIFE Master AJ: According to Fritz 12, my play on move twelve was bad. ('?!' or even '?')

Better was 12.Qd2, with a slight advantage.

LIFE Master AJ: BTW, when I played this, I was thinking (mostly) about a game between Botvinnik and Alekhine.

... didn't work out quite the same way, Jim.
