Dec-23-09  lost in space: Hmmmm, this is not the way Junge would play with Black (at least from my point of view). But he could have been playing white (Catalan like).

Are you sure, <CG.com>, that it is not Junge - Nowarra (instead of Nowarra - Junge)?

Sep-30-20  Alan McGowan: Re the comments by <lost in space>:

'Das war Klaus Junge' by Budrich and Schulte (1956) gave the game with Junge as Black (pp85-6).

A later publication (1995), 'Des Leben und Schaffen von Klaus Junge 1924-1945" by Helmut Riedl, gave the game with Junge as White. Interestingly, Riedl, at the end of the game, refers to the earlier work with 'BS S.85' but says nothing about the correct colour allocation.

A contribution by a historian of German cc chess would be appreciated.

Apr-09-21  Chessist: I am not a historian of German cc chess but according to DSZ 1942, p. 160, the draw was: ... 7 Nowarra 8 Junge ... (12 participants). Therefore the pairing was Nowarra (White) - Junge (Black).
Jun-06-21  Chessist: Budrich/Schulte:
"In the final position of the game, black has a better chance. ... The endgame expert Junge would certainly have tried to exploit this advantage under normal circumstances." Thus it is clear that Junge played with Black.
