Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-29-06  EmperorAtahualpa: I think Black resigns here because Black threatens 41...Qh1+, after which would follow 42.Ke2 Qxh2+ 43.Kd1 Qxg3 and the h-pawn can reach the back rank.

Is there any way for White to stop this? Perhaps 41.Re2 can limit White's damage?

Aug-29-06  percyblakeney: <Is there any way for White to stop this? Perhaps 41.Re2 can limit White's damage?> In the final position Re2 may be the best move but there seems to be nothing to do for white by then, since it can be followed by Qh1+ or Rb1+ (41. Re2 Rb1+ 42. Kf2 Qd4+ 43. Kf3 g5 44. Qc8+ Kg7 45. Qc7+ Kf6 and black wins). Kasparov had the advantage earlier in the game and for example 33. a6 should win quickly (close to 4 pawns up according to Shredder).
