LIFE Master AJ: A nice win by Black, I kept sacking Pawns, hoping to get a little play. I would be curious to know if a GM thought my sacrifices were any good. Ray, do you have your ears on?

chancho: More accurate is 42...Qh1+ 43.Kg3 Qh2+ 44.Kf3 Qg2# mate. (no offense intended AJ)

LIFE Master AJ: No offense taken, dude.

Its tougher to play a game, it can be a relatively easy thing to find an improvement, especially if you are using a strong chess engine.

In fact, if you could not find any improvements with any chess engine, than I would suspect there was something wrong with your computer!

I won like six and drew one in this event, so I am satisfied that I played at a master-level.

chancho: <AJ> I found the improvement while looking at this diagram on move 42, but you are right. In a game situation a player is liable to miss something if there's time pressure or a host of other factors. I've missed mates in those type of situations too. Six wins and one draw?
That's impressive!

LIFE Master AJ: <chancho> Thanks! Good catch on the mate! (Its a nice pattern and prevents the WK from escaping to h3.)

LIFE Master AJ: As I remember, I was getting rather tired at the end ...

Also - I recall that my wife was very upset. (This tournament happened on the same weekend as the death of Lady Di.)

LIFE Master AJ: Its easy to say that non-chess events should not have an impact on your play, but "Its easier said than done."
