Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-22-06  AlexandraThess: Great win by Nilsen. I dont like at all Aronian's style
Mar-22-06  strifeknot: You don't like Aronian's style in this game or in general?
Mar-22-06  aragorn69: On site commentary: <<When Aronian arrived for the rapid game he greeted his opponent with a friendly, but slightly unusual ‘Nice to see you’. And then they lay into each other. In a hedgehog Sicilian Black got good attacking chances after he had played the typical breaking move …d5. Then Aronian was a bit too eager. Wishing to finish in great style he sacrificed a piece, but the white king could slip away. The game remained immensely complicated and when Aronian missed his chances to force a perpetual, Nielsen could give back some material to reach an easily winning ending. >>
Mar-22-06  aragorn69: Kasparov's ironical opinion (http://www.chessninja.com/dailydirt/) : <<He's been a fan of Aronian's spirited play (mini-match wins over Topalov and Leko), but when Aronian lost to Nielsen in a wild game Garry commented, "Aronian wanted to play like a genius, but someone forgot to tell Nielsen that Aronian is a genius!" True. If only our opponents believed in our sacrifices as much as we do. >>
Mar-22-06  ahmadov: The overall score between Nielsen and Aronian is +2 -0 =1, according to this database. Very good result for Nielsen!
Mar-22-06  alcappacino: Whats wrong with 26...Qh1+, 27.Bg1 Bh2 and then whatever white plays for move 28, black can win a piece by 28..Bxd5. If 29 Qxd5, black can play 29..Qxg1+ and have a potent attack. Am I missing something here?
Mar-23-06  Calli: <alcappacino> White can retreat the knight,Nd5 -> Nc3 which defends the bishop at e2. Everything appears protected at that point.
Mar-23-06  technical draw: Nerves must have been on edge on both sides in this game. I got nervous just replaying it.
Mar-23-06  alcappacino: Thanks Calli. I had missed that.
May-04-06  notyetagm: 22 ... ♕d8 with the terrible threat of 23 ... ♘e4! <CLEARANCE> followed by 24 ... ♕h4+ and 25 ... ♕h2#.
