plang: Milov tied for first with Tiviakov with an undefeated +2 (6 player double round robin). Piket played 6..a6 to avoid the symmetrical line 6..Bf5 7 e3..e6 8 Bb5 but after 8 e3 Milov felt that 8..Rc8 would have been stronger as after 8..e6?! 9 Qb3! Black's position was already awkward. Piket avoided the position that would have arose after 12..0-0 13 Nc5..Nxc5 14 dxc followed by 15 Nd4 because White would have had a queenside majority and a more active position. Instead, he played the sharp 12..g5!? but this left him behind in development and did nothing to solve the problem of the poorly placed rook on a7. Milov felt that 13..0-0 may have been better as the King was not safe in the center. 17..Bxd6 18 cxd..Qxd6 19 Qb6 would have been very strong for White. 18..Bh5 would have been a stronger defense; after 18..Bxf3?! and 19..f5?! Milov opened up the Black position with 21 e4! (if 21..fxe then 22 f3!) and had a winning initiative.
